Desert Door Texas Sotol is the new kid on the block but they have already proved themselves to be a hot contender in the spirits world. If you aren’t familiar with sotol, fear not, we will give you the run down. While the distillery is still young, the process of distilling the evergreen sotol plant has been around for generations. The natives of West Texas had been using the sotol plant for thousands of years, as a food source, and to make mats. When the Spaniards arrived in west Texas, they showed the natives how to distill and that folks is how the earthy sotol spirit was formed. Now you don’t have to travel all the way out west to get a taste of this elixir. Head to Driftwood to taste all their tasty concoctions. No tours are on the menu at this point but getting to sip on sotol is worth the trip to Desert Door.

Also located in Driftwood right down the road from Desert Door off the beaten path is Stinson Distilling. This hidden gem is in a metal building off of FM 150. On particularly nice days, which Texas is known for, the big garage style doors will be all the way up as you walk into the tasting room. The tasting room has a cozy and family like feel but don't be mistaken, this is a family of skilled distillers who have won five medals at the prestigious Denver International Spirits Competition this past year.

Situated in a quiet country setting, it's a great place to relax while sippin' on a tasty cocktail. Stinson Distilling also hosts tour groups as well as private events. Stinson proudly handcrafts Premium Vodka, Elderflower liqueur, Rum(s), Brandy(s), Whiskey(s), Carajillo and Texas Holiday Nog.
