Birds of Dripping Springs

HERE ARE SOME TIPS TO HELP PROTECT BIRDS IN DRIPPING SPRINGS!

REDUCING BIRD COLLISIONS WITH BUILDINGS:

  • Install bird-friendly glass or window treatments such as decals, screens, or UV-reflective films.
  • Keep blinds or curtains closed when not needed to reduce reflections.
  • Place feeders and plants away from windows to prevent birds from flying into them.

KEEPING CATS INDOORS:

  • Encourage neighbors to keep their cats indoors, especially during dawn and dusk when birds are most active.
  • Provide cats with stimulating indoor environments to reduce their desire to roam.
  • Use collars with bells to give birds warning of a cat's approach.

CONTROLLING INVASIVE SPECIES:

  • Identify and remove invasive plant species from your yard or local parks to restore native habitats.
  • Support conservation organizations working to control invasive species through habitat restoration and management.

DARK SKY LIGHTING SOLUTIONS:

  • Use downward-facing, shielded outdoor lights to minimize light pollution.
  • Install motion sensor lights to reduce unnecessary nighttime illumination.
  • Utilize curtains or blinds at night to reduce indoor light pollution and aid migrating birds' navigation.
