Wild Card: Taco Mafia at Desert Door

Date: Sept 20, 2021

Famous for their unique tacos, the combined forces of Nixta Taqueria, Discada, Cuantos Tacos and La Tunita 512 - all part of the notorious Taco Mafia - will shake things up at Desert Door’s inaugural Wild Card pop up. This month, the featured dish is Tlayudas. This Oaxacan staple starts with a large, thin, crunchy, partially fried or toasted tortilla which is then covered with a spread of refried beans, asiento or pork lard, lettuce or cabbage, avocado, and meat.

That’s the standard recipe, but you can bet your tortillas this crew will bring their own unique spin to this iconic dish.

The Taco Mafia operates in mysterious ways and when the creative urges strike, you never know what’s going to happen. So you'll have to wait until the event to see the full menu. We can promise you two things - it'll be damn good. And it’ll disappear fast.

Better sign up now to reserve your very own Tlayuda. Arrive at Desert Door during your ticketed time between 5:30 - 8:30 pm on Monday, September 20th. Grab your Tlayuda and then head to the bar for delicious Desert Door sotol cocktails. A portion of the proceeds from our Bartender's Choice will benefit Discada's food truck - they need to make some important repairs so they can get back to making tacos! As will always be the case at Wild Card, the Tlayudas are limited - when they’re gone, they’re gone.

About Wild Card

Wild Card is a monthly series, created and hosted by Desert Door. It features some of our favorite chefs from throughout Texas (and beyond) cooking items not found on their regular menu. We ask the chefs, ‘What do you want to make?’ It’s their chance to flex and do whatever they want, no holds barred. And, it’s always a bit of a surprise. Hence, Wild Card!
