Fall Copita-Making Class with Karacotta

Date: Sept 15, 2019
A staple to the sotol experience is drinking a pour of Desert Door original in a cold copita.

What is a copita you ask?

It translates to “little glass” and our signature copitas are handcrafted by Karacotta Ceramics. Kara is one of the first local artists we worked with and through this event, you’ll learn how to make your own set of copitas to sip sotol and share with others.

Through this beginner-friendly workshop at Desert Door, you can expect to quickly learn the basic fundamentals of ceramic-making (clay types, glazing, firing, and best practices), and then we will start with a no-experience-needed pinch pot technique!

Each person will make a set of four copitas, that can also be used for whiskey, espresso, tequila or your beverage of choice. If time allows, you can also make a matching serving tray to go with your copitas. We will wrap up class by decorating and glazing our pieces through several technique options.

Tickets for Fall Copita-Making Class with Karacotta

To complete your pieces, Kara will kiln fire them (essentially baking them, so they retain their shape and become durable & food-safe) and you will be able to pick them up from Broad Studios, where Kara's workshop is located in east Austin, or Desert Door two-three weeks after class.

This class guarantees expert instruction, troubleshooting tips, the freedom to create in a gorgeous environment, and a really fun Sunday afternoon.

We have a menu of craft cocktails to choose from. BYO lunch or order a charcuterie board.

Copita are only as good as the spirit they contain. Since we are not able to sell bottles on Sunday, we have an option to purchase your bottle in advanced through Eventbrite below and you can pick up during this workshop.

Please note, if you order on this forum on a Sunday, we will need to refund the purchase - so please only place bottle orders Monday-Saturday. You are permitted to purchase up to two bottles per guest and we will need to see your license when you pick up during this event.

Stick around for live music by Beth Lee, which kicks off at 3:00 pm.
