Foraging Texas Classes at Vista Brewing

Date: Jan 27, 2019

Join Dr. Mark “Merriwether” Vorderbruggen of Merriwether's Foraging Texashas he roams the land of Vista Brewing, revealing the hidden foods and medicines growing there. We’re offering two plant walk sessions: 11AM – 1PM AND 2PM – 4PM.

Come early or stay late for a few beers and a meal from Vista’s hyper-local grill. We are even reserving the very last two cases of 750ml bottles of our collaboration beer called Merriwether, a Wild IPA with wood sorrel, dewberry & agarita blossoms foraged from the Vista property. (Unfortunately, not available on draft anymore).

Spend time outside on our 21 acres rediscovering what your ancestors knew, that there’s food everywhere, not just on store shelves and farmer’s markets. This adventure will use all of your senses and involves experiencing these useful plants in their normal, wild settings so that you’ll be able to properly identify (and eat!) them on your own later on.

Merriwether will also detail the numerous ways he incorporates the plants into his family’s day-to-day diet and medicine chest. The cool thing about Texas is the summer weeds of up north are winter weeds down here so there’ll be plenty to see. Come and release your inner caveman, foodie, survivalist, or hippie!

Tickets are $20 (plus 8% sales tax), and only 16 spots are available in each class. Please dress appropriately for the weather, including long pants and sturdy walking shoes.

Tickets are available on the Vista Brewing website.
